Valentine’s Day in Amsterdam
Valentine’s Day in Amsterdam

Amsterdam in winter is a very romantic city, especially on Valentine's Day. The cold is just an excuse to hold each other closer.
There are plenty of things to see in Amsterdam, but if you're visiting the city especially for Valentine's Day, here are some of our favorite romantic ideas.
6 things to do in Amsterdam on Valentine's Day
1. Go ice skating

It looks like a scene from a movie! The truth is that ice skating hand in hand has real charm, and you're guaranteed an evening full of laughter and fun (and probably a few falls too).
Afterwards you can stop for something warm to drink… something the Dutch would call gezellig! In February the rinks that opened for Christmas are still running.
2. Concerts at the Concertgebouw
As part of its classical concert series, the Concertgebouw usually puts on a special concert to celebrate love. The ticket price includes a drink, cloakroom and public transport within Amsterdam there and back.
3. A romantic boat ride through the canals

One of the best ways to get to know Amsterdam is from its iconic canals. There are plenty of options: several companies offer special dinners at a range of prices. You can also rent a boat just for the two of you… is there anything more romantic than that?
4. A dinner to awaken the senses
Have you ever imagined having dinner with your eyes closed? At Ctaste they believe that dining in the dark heightens your sense of taste and smell; it's a real culinary experience. The chef has designed a special three-course menu, which you choose on arrival.
Then a member of staff guides you to your table in complete darkness. It's a perfect chance to switch off from everything (dinner with no smartphones on the table!) and reconnect with that special someone.
5. Take a free tour in Amsterdam

Joining a free tour isn't the most romantic idea in the world, but it is a good way to get a feel for the city without spending much. Take a look at the Amsterdam free tour for adults or any of the best free tours in Amsterdam.
5. A kiss on the Magere Brug

Besides strolling through Amsterdam's beautiful streets, wonderfully lit at night, the special touch comes from crossing the Magere Brug: a very narrow pedestrian-only bridge over the Amstel river.
The bridge is lit by 1,200 light bulbs and, although it isn't the original from the late 17th century, it looks just the same, only a little wider. Legend has it that couples who embrace on the bridge will be blessed with eternal love. Worth a try, don't you think?
